The Problem?
VLC for ubuntu or Linux for that matter doesn’t come with this plugin pre-installed. So we got ourselves a problem here as the default video player is also lacking the same. Now there is a way around all this.
In my case there were House of Cards videos that I couldn’t get to work. So I followed this approach.
The Solution:-
sudo apt-add-repository ppa:strukturag/libde265
sudo apt-get install vlc-data
sudo apt-get install libvlccore8
sudo apt-get install vlc-plugin-libde265
And voilà you got yourself working HEVC videos.
